KAILUA-KONA — The Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i water polo team won the BIIF Championship, defeating Hawaii Prep 11-10 in overtime on Saturday morning.
Ka Makani took the lead early, with three goals in the first period — two of which were scored by Lia Craven, who would lead HPA by the end of the match with five goals.
The Warriors began to catch up in the second period, scoring three goals and holding Ka Makani to two — reducing their deficit to 5-4.
In the third period, KSH outscored HPA 3-2 again to tie the game.
Both teams each scored three goals in the fourth period, sending the match to overtime.
In overtime, Taylor Furstenwerth scored the Warriors’ winning goal.
Waiahuli Akua led KSH with five goals, trailed by Ka‘ivlani Rorka with three.
Both the Warriors and Ka Makani will proceed to the HHSAA State playoffs, which will take place May 11-13th on O‘ahu.
Earlier that morning, Waiakea High School defeated Kealakehe High School 7-5 to take third place and secure the BIIF’s third HHSAA State playoff berth.
